A few days ago I tasked you guys to ask me anything. The questions could be about my blog, my life, my relationship, my dog, getting to know me- whatever you want. I was a little nervous to see what kind of questions you would come up with but BOY did you guys deliver! I had so much fun reading these questions and answering them. One of the main focuses of my blog is to have full transparency with you guys. I want to get to know you as much as you get to know me- openly and truthfully! So keep on reading for some completely vulnerable and honest answers. And again, thank you sooooo much for being here and taking the time to support me!
Q & A
What religion do I practice? I don’t. I’m not a religious person but I do love to read about the practices of Buddhism and Confucianism. I like to focus on self reflection and being the best version of myself.
What’s your favorite flower? A Sunflower!
Why did you start a blog? I created my blog as a creative outlet! I love everything to do with content creation; designing, planning, visualizing ideas and making them come to life, creating graphics, photo shoots, writing and reviewing my favorite things and detailing my life. It’s such a release for the artist in me to be able to do things and design them the way I want to! I have fun challenging myself and learning new things along the way.
What has been one of my hardest obstacles in my life and how did I get through it? My senior year of high school two of my friends committed suicide. Besides my grandparents, it was the first death that hit close to home. It was an extremely difficult time during my life. I was diagnosed with depression and turned to medication and alcohol for relief, but that was not the answer. Never will be. My family and friends got me through a rough time. I also moved to Wilmington where I found a new sense of home and a love for the beach. It truly healed me and gave me the chance to move on with my life.
Do I prefer waffles or pancakes? Pancakes.
What are my go-to travel friendly wardrobe pieces? This one is hard! I usually over pack because I’m shooting content on most of my trips. But if I HAD to pick some wardrobe staples it would be a pair of denim jeans, some vans, a pair of booties, a white t shirt, black t shirt, a light hoodie, some ultra cozy leggings, and a baseball cap for those bad hair days!
How do I maintain a joyful and positive attitude? First let me say that I am not ALWAYS positive. I try to stay positive as much as I can but life can get tough and I can get moody. I am very hard on myself in life, love, and work, and with that comes negative self talk. When I do hit these negative lows here are a few things that I do to bring positivity and joy back into my life:
- I try to surround myself around people who are positive and trying to make a difference in the world. Someone once told me “you are who you spend the most time with.” That has always stuck with me!
- I hit the gym and get those endorphins runnin! Working out give’s me a release and pulls me away from the emotions of every day life. I feel better after I’ve accomplished a workout.
- Smile. It’s one of those fake it to you make it things. When I go to work and when I post my face on IG I want to smile, I want to spread positivity and make others happy, and sometimes – even when it’s fake- it’ll turn my day around.
What motivates me to workout? I grew up super active. I played sports since 6th grade and loved activities outdoors when living at the beach. My dad has also struggled with his personal health and it’s only motivated me more to take care of my own!
What is a memorable childhood memory that shows you that you have always been a creative person? I’m sure my mother would love to answer this one because there are TOO many answers. The fondest memory I have is when I got my first Photoshop application. I used to spend HOURS editing photos and creating custom logos and designs. I would swap out editing for a TV any day.
What is my astrological sign? Aries
What is your biggest insecurity? Physically, my stomach. Mentally, not being good enough. Whether its for work, relationships, emotionally, etc.
What is something on my bucket list you hope to accomplish this year? Moving and saving tons of money. Ben & I are really looking forward to moving into a townhouse or rental home later this year. A much bigger space with some light and airy rooms is NEEDED. We’ll be in our next place for about 2 years while we save up to buy a home!
What is my favorite place I have traveled to? This one is hard. I’d have to say Morocco because it’s unlike any other place that I’ve traveled. I was able to camp out and ride camels in the Sahara Desert and it’s one of the “coolest” things I’ve done so far.
How do I keep myself motivated? I do not like to let people down. Growing up, everyone around me was motivated and worked really hard for what they wanted. My dad was extremely successful in sales. My mother and sister are the definition of motivation. Because I was surrounded by these people and positive talk about being motivated and going for what you want, I have learned that there is no alternative. I want to be well rounded and successful so my family will be proud of me. Some days I do not want to do anything, but I feel a bit guilty just sitting around. And if I am sitting around, I always seem to be brainstorming what shoots, blog posts, etc, I can do next!
What is my favorite Disney movie and why? Hmmm. I think it’s Alladin. I always wanted to be Jasmine for some reason.
Did I ever go to college? Yes! I graduated from UNC Wilmington with a B.A in Fine Art.
Where does your middle name come from? My middle name is Jo. It comes from my Auntie Jo Jo (short for Joanne). She’s my mom’s sister – obvi- but she was also my delivery nurse and and one of my godparents!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Honestly, no clue. Ideally married to my best friend, living in a home that we work in remodeling together, and reducing another dog.
How did you and your man meet? Ben & I met through mutual friends. We were friends for a while before we dated and we even worked together in Wilmington!
Where do you want to travel next? If I could travel anywhere- this second- it would be Thailand. But I have so many places on my 5 year bucket list including Hawaii, South Africa, Bali, Croatia, and Australia.
Name one weird food habit. I could write a novel, but I guess the strangest food habit I have is biting off the pointy tips of french fries and making a little pile of the tips. I don’t want to choke on them!
What are some of my passions in life? I am passionate about people, travel, success. I love meeting new people and hearing their stories. I am passionate about personal growth and making sure I set myself up for a comfortable future for me and my family. I am also passionate about travel and seeing the beautiful landscapes and cultures of the world!
