Our new little rental home is starting to come together. Slowly, it’s starting to feel like us again. During the past two months we’ve come across a few areas of our home that need a little TLC. One of them being our fireplace. After painting the living room white, and bringing in new decor something about our black fireplace felt outdated. I believe that a fireplace is not supposed to be an eyesore. It should be just as warm & inviting as the rest of your home. It’s a wonderful place to update each season with new decor, mirrors, pictures, stockings, candles, and gather your family around. This year I finally get to enjoy one (a working one that is), so I’m going to make the most of it.
Since we could be moving any where from a year to two years from now, I wanted to make sure whatever update I did, it could be reversible. Anything I “update” in this home, must be able to be undone with little to no damage. That’s why I opted for peel and stick tile decals.
There’s so much to love about this easy update. Not only does the peel and stick look like the same expensive tiles you’d find in a newly renovated home, but they’re 1/3 of the cost and completely removable/replaceable in case you mess up or change your mind. I set my heart on these peel and stick tiles from a reputable Etsy store. They arrived within 5 business days, just in time to put up before I hosted a Friendsgiving event at my home.
Applying these peel and stick tiles was one of the easiest updates I’ve done so far. You can order them in 4×4 or 6×6 , or in a a custom size. Make sure you measure the surface area you will be sticking them on before ordering. For my fireplace I went with the 6×6 decals. I made sure to measure up where they would be placed and cut off any unnecessary edges before I stuck them on. Make sure you have a steady hand when doing this. Also be sure to have a something like a credit card on hand so you can smooth out any bubbles that may arise during the application.
And that’s it folks. It was an extremely easy update and only took me 30 minutes to do the whole thing. Such a great DIY project that is rental friendly, affordable, and timeless. I’m excited to have this project done just in time for the holidays for friends and family to see!
Check out other decal options from the same Etsy store I ordered from. You can also do a similar project with peel and stick tiles that are available on Wayfair and Home Depot!
Thank you so much for reading and I hope you found it helpful and inspiring. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions about this DIY!
